Jacksonville, Florida – A tragic incident took place in Jacksonville on Friday, December 8, 2023. Shortly after 5:00 p.m., the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a stabbing that had just taken place at the 1400 block of W. Union Street.
Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers encountered a deeply distressing sight. Reginald Curtis, a 46-year-old Black man, was found lying outside, evidently suffering from a stab wound. Upon arrival of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, Curtis was pronounced dead on the scene.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) quickly mobilized its Homicide Team #4, along with the Crime Scene Unit. These specialized teams arrived promptly and began a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this death.
During the investigation, detectives were able to speak with a witness. This interview led them to the potential suspect’s whereabouts. Acting on this information, officers located and detained Demyya Thomas, a 43-year-old Black woman, at the identified location.
Following a careful review of the evidence gathered at the crime scene and an in-depth interview with Thomas, she was arrested for second-degree murder in connection with Curtis’s death. Thomas was then transported to the Pretrial Detention Facility, where she awaits further legal proceedings.
