43-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with last week’s stabbing death in Jacksonville

Jacksonville, Florida – A tragic incident took place in Jacksonville on Friday, December 8, 2023. Shortly after 5:00 p.m., the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a stabbing that had just taken place at the 1400 block of W. Union Street.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers encountered a deeply distressing sight. Reginald Curtis, a 46-year-old Black man, was found lying outside, evidently suffering from a stab wound. Upon arrival of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, Curtis was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) quickly mobilized its Homicide Team #4, along with the Crime Scene Unit. These specialized teams arrived promptly and began a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this death.

During the investigation, detectives were able to speak with a witness. This interview led them to the potential suspect’s whereabouts. Acting on this information, officers located and detained Demyya Thomas, a 43-year-old Black woman, at the identified location.

Following a careful review of the evidence gathered at the crime scene and an in-depth interview with Thomas, she was arrested for second-degree murder in connection with Curtis’s death. Thomas was then transported to the Pretrial Detention Facility, where she awaits further legal proceedings.

Once more information becomes available, we will update this article. If you have information regarding this incident, please contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500.
