The history of the BMW Z3 M Coupé has a difficult beginning but a happy ending. Initially, the world made fun of the little Z3 M model because it had a strange design and a lot of fans, although it would not be worth its money. The original engine did it no favors either, as the S50 or S52 engines were too tame for some fans. However, once the S54 engine was introduced and its handling became known, things started to change.
The Z3 M Coupe might have earned the nickname ‘clown shoe’ due to its funky styling, but no one laughs at it now. It’s an amazing driver’s car and the one in the video below might be one of the craziest builds in the world. According to the video, this particular car has a turbocharged Supra 2JZ engine under the hood. That is exciting for several reasons. For starters, it keeps the inline six-cylinder configuration intact. Also, the 2JZ is similar in size and does not affect the weight distribution too much.
Apparently the tuned engine was initially pushing about 540 HP towards the rear axle, but those who did decided it was a bit too much. That’s an understatement considering the original Z3 M had less than 300 HP. Then they tweaked the engine a bit more and came to the conclusion that 400 hp at the rear wheel should be sufficient. Judging by the face of the presenter in this video, I think they are making money on that estimate.
The best part about this build, if you ask me, is that it is completely reversible. That’s because the prices of these cars have gone up lately, also quite a bit. The Z3 M Coupé is becoming a collector’s item and if you won one, you better save it!
