Homestead, Florida – A police officer within the Miami-Dade Police Department was arrested and is now behind bars following accusations of assaulting his ex-partner. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, involved Officer Miguel Lomeli, 32, and his ex-girlfriend.
The arrest came after a disturbing incident outside the ex-girlfriend’s home in Homestead. According to police reports, an argument escalated when Lomeli allegedly grabbed the woman and forcefully took her inside the residence. Reports show that Lomeli was also accused of sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend in the home.
MDPD Director Stephanie Daniels addressed the incident with a strong statement, emphasizing the department’s zero tolerance for such misconduct. “There is no place for betrayal of public trust of any kind in the Miami-Dade Police Department. The allegations of misconduct by one of my officers is extremely troubling and immediate action has been taken to hold the officer accountable,” she said. Daniels further highlighted the importance of maintaining the integrity of the police force and the trust of Miami-Dade County residents.
The arrest of Lomeli was a coordinated effort involving the department’s Special Victims Bureau and the State Attorney’s Office. Daniels confirmed the collaboration and assured continued investigation and cooperation with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure justice.
