Jose Mourinho is worried Toby Alderweireld will be out long-term team with an apparent groin injury in Tottenham’s win over Manchester City.
The Belgian midfielder was forced off towards the end of the Spurs’ 2-0 win, which sent them to the top of the Premier League and replaced by the summer signing of Joe Rodon; his home debut.
Alderweireld held his groin as he stumbled away, and full-time when asked if the banquet was a potential long-term injury, Mourinho replied: “I want to say it.
“I’m just sorry Toby. He did an amazing job, he has a major injury. It’s the injury of fatigue. It’s the injury that happens
“But it was an opportunity for (Joe) Rodon to get into a game of this dimension and difficulty. So, let’s go. Thursday we have another.”
Alderweireld had turned in an excellent defensive performance as goals from Heung-Min Son and Giovani Lo Celso gave the Spurs their second consecutive home win over Pep Guardiola’s side.
Alderweireld played two full matches for Belgium during the international break, including the victory over England.
